This page dives into the detail of three aspects of our New Resident Service: Sourcing, Terms, and Options. If you've not yet reviewed the more general description there, I recommend you click right back to the Home Page first.
Here's how we get the names & addresses we supply for you, in the zip codes for which you order them. While it's not at all necessary for a user of these names to know how they were prepared, it's worth noting that whatever sourcing method is used DETERMINES THE QUALITY of the list.
We use three sources, and in each case the mover himself writes the notice of address change, to initiate the process:
- change-of-address notices to CREDIT CARD operators
- change-of-address notices to CREDIT BUREAUX, as in any
credit application he may make, and
- change-of-address notices to 36 POPULAR
MAGAZINES, sent in by subscribers.
Some seven million address changes reach the system on the last day of each month from these sources (there are six in all, grouped as above) and there's plenty of overlap. So the first task is to eliminate duplicates, defined as two records with the same last-name at the same street address.
So in the resulting Master List for the month, there would be only one record (the FIRST one encountered) per family (same last-name, same address.)
Then, duplicates from TWELVE PREVIOUS MONTHS are purged, on the same basis. That's because a mover might get round to telling his (eg) credit card operator about his move a month or more AFTER he tells (eg) his favorite magazine publisher. We don't want to charge you twice for the same name.
That's a very thorough piece of computer processing, and results in a Master List of about 1.2 million, which is well over 85% of all movers; HIGHLY comprehensive.
By taking so many different sources and then selecting the FIRST occurrence of a name, this sophisticated sourcing method provides you with the best overall new-resident list available: TIMELY, as well as comprehensive.
Note for example: one possible way to identify movers would be to go to Town Hall and copy out the names of all who bought real estate. If done often enough, that would be more timely than our way. But it would identify:
- no renters at all! (perhaps 30% of your opportunity)
- absentee landlords, not just true residents!
For serious direct-mail advertising to new residents, you need a list that's BOTH timely AND comprehensive. We have it.
A final comment on our sourcing method: all three sources indicate that the mover is ECONOMICALLY ACTIVE. He has a credit card, and/or he applies for credit, and/or he buys a magazine (one or more of three dozen) by subscription, not just on a whim. So he or she is a solid citizen, the kind you may want most of all among your clientele.
These will appear on the back of the Order Form we'll send in your Custom Proposal, and are rather straightforward:
1. Payment-Due Date
New Resident names & addresses will be e-mailed to clients on or before the 18th of each month, and invoiced by regular mail for the quantity delivered at the price agreed, subject to (2) below.
Payment is due for receipt by the last day of the same month as that of the invoice and a charge of 1.5% will be made, in the following month's invoice, upon any balance unpaid at a month-end.
2. Minimum charge
If the monthly charge calculation (see above) would result in a sum less than $15.00, it would be superseded by a minimum charge of $15 - with the exception that if the quantity were zero that month, there would be neither shipment nor charge.
3. Discount for Quantity
At the time of ordering, the client may contract to accept a minimum aggregate quantity of new resident names (over however long it takes) and so enjoy a discounted price.
Choice of this discount is made by the client circling on the Order Form the price corresponding to his commitment.
4. Refundable Deposit
A Deposit of $150 must accompany each order, and will be returned promptly by C-AM in the event of termination.
5. 95% Guarantee
Errors occur, in this as in all mailing lists. However, C-AM will credit its charges for any names & addresses rejected by the USPS as undeliverable, over 5% of the quantity shipped, upon claim by the client. C-AM reserves the right to verify the claim.
6. Change and Termination
The client may change the zip codes he has on order, or cancel outright, at any time. However, written notice must reach C-AM by noon on the 9th of any month, to take effect in the delivery planned for the FOLLOWING month.
We offer two, to be chosen on the Order Form we'll send you:
1. The ZIZ Option
This Zaps Intra-Zip movers' names; those whose move is from one address to another in the same zip code. About 10% of all movers fall into that group, so if you exercised this option the volumes you can expect would be only 90% of those that we show in our Estimate.
What it does for you is to eliminate those names that are of people you judge to know already everything you want them to know about your business or church, by virtue of having lived in the neighborhood already.
If you think you can excite them to pay you a visit even so, perhaps because moving is a major change for most people even if it's across the road, don't choose the ZIZ Option; mark instead to "include" such movers.
2. The Scope Option
This enables you, if you wish, to delete from our list the names of those moving to a LOW INCOME AREA. So if you sell products or services that cannot be afforded by people with a household income below the national median, cut them out.
The way we operate this is to use the Census Tract data. A tract is a small part of a zip code - a few blocks - and is associated with an average household income. So this Option is not at all precise; a rich family could move in to a low income area, and vice versa. But in the circumstance noted, it's a useful way to save on mailing-out costs.
That saving is very small if people of differing incomes live next door to each other (homogeneously) but can be large (as much as one third) if they are heterogeneous. In any case, if your service applies to people regardless of wealth, choose "all available movers" instead of this exclusion.
